A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

Welcome to the Web Site of the Ayden Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  This congregation has a rich history of ministering to people for over 113 years.  Yet, this community of faith is living in the present and looking forward to ways to touch people in the real world in which we live.

Ayden Christian Church is an open and accepting fellowship of believers.  We are known as a church that celebrates unity in the midst of diversity.  We attract spiritual seekers who want the freedom to explore faith and ask questions without the fear of failing a litmus test of orthodoxy.  The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was born as a unity movement which professes “no creed but Christ.”  Therefore we attract a full spectrum of members who are conservative, liberal, and all places in between.  We encourage people to have a rational faith that challenges the use one’s heart and head.

We understand that people seek to worship God in different ways.  As a result, we offer two different worship experiences each Sunday morning.  At 9:00 AM we offer a contemporary service called “Turning Point.”  This service is less structured and filled with contemporary praise music. At 11:00 we offer a traditional service that is somewhat more formal and structured.  As a general rule, visitors who haven’t been accustomed to attending church tend to feel more comfortable at the Turning Point service while those who have attended church for a number of years often prefer the traditional service.

When you visit with us you will observe that we celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday and we invite every professing Christian from any Christian denomination to join us in this celebration.  The Bible is our text book.  Sermons are scripturally based and applied in ways that are relevant to the world in which we live.  We are evangelical in that we invite people to confess Jesus as Lord.  We are sensitive to social justice issues because we seek to love our neighbor as ourselves.  We are ecological in that we believe that the world in which we live is ultimately traced back to God as creator and that God has entrusted the care of the earth to humankind.

If these thoughts have struck a responsive chord in your life I would encourage you to contact me, or visit one of our church services to see where your journey of faith leads you.

The Peace of Christ be with you,

R. Michael Goff, Pastor
